Parking/Facilities/Registration: We arrived at the race about an hour before the start. There was convenient parking close to the finish area. And, after two hours in the car hydrating, we were happy to see four porta potties and no line! We proceeded to registration where we were given our numbers and invited to make our own swag bag of goodies. We took some un-candy bars, tea samples, and some body lotion. There was some upbeat pre-race music playing and a lot of nervous energy in the parking lot area.

Race Course:  The race course takes runners through the towns of Freeport and Brunswick. To say there were a lot of hills would be an understatement. There were more ups and downs than frog on a pogo stick. The scenery was very New England with lots of farms and rolling green fields surrounded by tall pines. The course was well marked, and there were seven water stops along the route.

Refreshments:  The refreshment table was neatly arranged with fresh fruit and pastry items. Bananas, bagels, cookies, and other items were available. Water bottles and Gatorade were both available to quench the runners’ thirst. Having the refreshments close to the finish makes it easy for runners to grab some much needed food and still be close by to see their friends and family finish the race.

Awards/Results/Swag:  Technical tees were given out to every runner. The eye-catching design is a nice bold red lobster with the race name printed below it on a grey shirt. Each finisher was awarded a custom race medal. Awards were given three deep in each age group. Overall and age group winners were given attractive pint glasses with the race logo. Almost every runner walked away with something, as many items were also given away in a raffle format.

Overall Experience:  The Freeport Half Marathon is presented by 3C Race Productions – the same team behind the New England Half Marathon Tour. The race management is experienced, efficient, and puts on a top-notch running events. There were less than 150-200 runners in today’s race, but I think this is the start of something bigger. The next race in the series is the Fall River Half Marathon in Fall River, MA on October 20, 2013. If you are looking for a great local racing experience with the benefits of a big time half marathon, look no further.

  1. I was at the Freeport Half yesterday as well! I can say now it was a good race but running it, I felt like my legs were going to give way! The medals were awesome and we ended up with pint glasses too! Good practice for me for the Cape Cod Marathon I am scheduled to run in on Oct 27.

    1. You had to be a mountain goat to run up and down the hills, but it was a nice race. I like the lobster T as well.

      1. Ha! I now have an image of said goat wearing the tshirt & running shoes 😉
