13 days to go.

This past week the distance dropped and the pace dropped with it. It is important to keep the intensity up even if the mileage is declining. It also helps with the feelings of mediocrity that the taper brings. Many coaches even suggest a short race to help keep the legs and mind sharp.

This week I will be focusing on race prep as well as running. Things like throw-away clothes for the long wait in the starting area, hat and gloves that I can toss, travel size container of vasoline, etc. I’m also very focused on staying healthy and not allowing anything to compromise my fitness. Sleep, diet, etc.

Bring on the taper. But, seriously… look at the mileage for next week. It feels a little strange to let up so much. Taper time is a test of patience and faith. Hopefully, I will toe the line in Fort Wadsworth feeling like Superman.
