The Brooks Ravenna 5 is a stability trainer with a sleek feel and a smooth ride. The lightweight (10.3 oz) shoe inspires a quick pace. In my training runs, I often found myself running too fast in the warm-up phase due to these bad boys. The Brooks Ravenna 5 isn’t  a racing flat, but it won’t slow you down on your tempo runs and hill workouts.

Think Green: The Brooks Ravenna 5 uses the BioMoGo DNA cushioning system. BioMoGo is a fully biodegradable midsole foam. It performs just as well as their standard MoGo midsole, only it breaks down fifty times faster. Don’t worry, it won’t disintegrate  while you’re running. It takes just 20 years to breakdown in a landfill, as compared to the standard EVA midsole that can last up to 1,000 years.

The Brooks Ravenna 5 caterpillar crash pad provides cushion on impact and ensures a smooth heel-to-toe transition. The shoes have a solid rubber sole that is abrasion-resistant and made to last. The shoe grips the road like a nice pair of racing tires. It’s reassuring to feel the road under your feet.

I have had a bit of chafing where the upper meets the front of my ankle. However, this may be as much a result of the cold, dry weather here in New Hampshire more than anything else. A change in the lacing pattern seemed to take care of this issue.

  1. I am getting ready to purchase the Ravenna 5 but I wanted to ask what you thought about it’s support for my mild plantar faciitis? I really only do 5k’s about 5 times a wk.

      Hi. I can tell you that I run 99% of the time in either Brooks or ASICS. I am suffering from PF right now, but it’s only after adding some other brands to the mix. I think stretching your PF is the key to staying healthy. That said, I really liked these shoes.
