Week Three: July 28 – Aug 3 Recap
There are only 90 days left until the 2014 TCS NYC Marathon! Just three months until runners line up by the thousands for a VIP running tour of the greatest city on earth. As you begin to rack up the miles and feel the impact of marathon training, stay focused on your goal and visualize the race you want to run. The marathon is an arduous physical test of endurance, but the mental fortitude it requires is even more demanding.
This week’s NYC marathon training was decent in terms of pace and progress. I felt a little used up towards the end of the week due to some friendly competition on my Tuesday run. But, things worked themselves out by the time the long run came around.
In the 12 mile long run, I stopped for water and an energy gel at 6 miles. I felt really good heading into the second half of my run. It’s important to test your fueling strategy out during training so that you know what works best on race day. This year, I’m determined to fuel properly and run a negative split for the last 13 miles. Patience.
