WEEK NINE: SEPT 8 – SEPT 14 RECAP
There are only 48 days to go until the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon!
This week was a bit of a break in terms of hard running effort. The 7-mile run on Friday included 4 at marathon goal pace, but that wasn’t really a big deal. Good thing, since I’ll be attempting 26.2 at that pace soon. The long run was a bit of a challenge. My lower legs felt like wood the last 5 miles.
Next week, Coach Kastor is ramping things up. Wednesday calls for 4 x 9 minutes at anaerobic threshold pace (10K race pace) with 2 minutes of recovery in between sets. Friday is 5 miles at goal marathon pace. Sunday calls for a long run of 19 miles. Total mileage next week should be about 52. I need a nap just thinking about it.
In other news, both of my children started middle school cross country. Peyton (10) and Abigail (12) ran well in the season opener finishing first for their teams. I love watching kids run and push themselves. Running is such a pure sport. No time-outs, no substitutions, no excuses.
