Week 10 NYC Marathon Training

Can you believe it? There are just 41 days to go until the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon!

Weekly mileage is accumulating quickly now. The long run is the most important workout of the week. The long run teaches your body how to run more efficiently and your mind how to resist fatigue. If you feel like you’re being pushed to your breaking point, then you’re doing them correctly.

It’s no coincidence that many runners tend to hit the wall in the marathon at the same distance as their longest training runs. Focus on good form, consistent fueling strategies, and positive thinking. These long runs provide ample time for you to think about your motivation and develop mantras that you can use on race day when the going gets tough.

You may notice that you’re feeling extra tired these days. That’s normal. Your body is in a constant state of recovery and adaptation. Be sure to rest and eat plenty of healthy foods. Your top priority is to reach the starting line fit and ready.
