WEEK ELEVEN: SEPT 22 – SEPT 28 RECAP
Only 34 days until the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon!
Okay, so 21 miles is a long way. It’s even longer when somebody takes one of your water bottles. The temperature outside was about 68° F when I began my run, but quickly warmed up to a sunny 80° F before I finished my running tour of the New Hampshire seacoast. I grabbed my second hidden water bottle at mile 11 and ate a few chews for an energy boost, but it was not one of my finer runs.
On the plus side, it was a good test of my endurance and mental fortitude. I should be able to bend spoons based upon the mental concentration it took to continue running the last 5 miles. Give me a 8-mile tempo run or some interval work any day. What’s not to like about the 5K, 5 mile, 10K, 10 mile, or even the half marathon?
I’ll be running a bunch of easy runs leading up to next Sunday’s 26.2K simulation run. I’m hoping that it will be a confidence builder. The goal is to complete the 26.2K run at marathon goal pace. Sunday’s performance will decide my pace on race day November 2nd.
