The ASICS GEL-DS Trainer is a cult favorite among runners. The ASICS GEL-DS is the lovechild of a lightweight racing shoe meets moderate stability trainer. The speed and responsiveness of this 8.5 oz shoe will help you crush it during races and speed workouts, and the gel cushioning found in both the forefoot and heel will keep you running comfortably longer.
The 20th version of the ASICS GEL-DS is also the lightest ever thanks to the Dynamic Duomax Support System and the Solyte midsole material. This shoe sits low to the ground with a heel-to-toe drop of 10mm. You’ll appreciate the springy toe-off courtesy of the Propulsion Trusstic which mimics connective tissue in the foot by creating tension as foot enters propulsion stage.
I’ve enjoyed running in ASICS for a long time. The shoes are comfortable, responsive, and predictable. The ASICS GEL-DS 20 is no different. This is a great shoe for your fast days, but it can pull double-duty as a regular trainer any day of the week.
The responsive toe-off was noted (and felt awesome) on my tempo run today. These shoes want to go fast, and they’ll urge you to pick up the pace. On a longer run of 90 minutes last weekend, these shoes performed well, but I kind of missed the cushy ride of my ASICS GEL KAYANO 21 running shoes after the first hour.
If you’re starting to think more about your finish times, and less about just finishing, this shoe might be just what you need. The blend of comfort, stability, and lightweight racer make the ASICS GEL-DS 20 a favorite year after year.
- nice smooth ride
- Laces rubbed a bit near the top on outside of shoe when laced using all available eyelets
