The ASICS 33-FA is a low-profile, lightweight trainer that offers a peek into ASICS upcoming series of ‘natural running’ shoes. The natural running shoe series uses the number 33, which refers to the number of joints found in the human foot. FA refers to ASICS Fluid Axis™ flex groove technology that enable a natural rotation of the foot while running.
Type: Trainer, Roads
Weight: 9.2 oz
Heel to Toe Drop: 4mm
On the outsole of the ASICS 33-FA, the anatomically correct deep flex grooves have been aligned to the joints of the foot. This enables the shoe to adapt, and respond to the runner’s load and positional change from first impact to toe-off. The Solyte® foam midsole offers cushioning and a soft comfortable ride.
The ASICS 33-FA is built with the Natural33™ last. The shoe mimics the shape of the foot and provides runners with a secure heel fit and room for the toes to spread out. The comfortable upper provides moisture management, high level breathability, and anti-microbial properties. This shoe can be worn with, or without socks.
I tested the ASICS 33-FA on frozen winter roads with a windchill temperature of -2º F. The shoe is definitely not good in the slush and snow, but if was great on the open roads. The 4mm offset of the ASICS 33-FA gives it a nice minimal feel with the cushioning one would expect in a more traditional shoe.
The ASICS 33-FA is a good choice for those opting to try a more ‘natural running’ style of shoe without risking injury.
