The new ASICS Gel-Fortitude 7 is a great shoe for runners that want cushion, support, and room for orthotics. I’ve been wearing orthotics because of lingering plantar fasciitis, and the Gel-Fortitude 7 works perfectly with my over-the-counter inserts. Beyond that, the ASICS Gel-Fortitude is exactly what you’d expect from the world’s most popular distance running shoe company.
The first thing I noticed while running in the new ASICS Gel-Fortitude 7 was the cushioning. Second was the roominess in the mid and forefoot regions. This is a training shoe for road runners who log lots of miles, and larger-framed, neutral runners who want a little extra cushioning courtesy of both rearfoot and forefoot GEL® cushioning systems.
Fall makes a mess of the roads here in New Hampshire, with leaves and acorn shells littering the bike lanes. But, I enjoyed a smooth ride, even while crushing acorn caps beneath my feet for 90 minutes. The durable rubber outsole provided solid traction and stability on the slippery road surface that glistened with maple and oak leaves ranging in color from bright yellows to dark reds.
The grey/black/red combination is a nice conservative color scheme that doesn’t scream “Look at me!” However, these shoes also come in a brighter blue/silver/orange color combination that reminds me of the New York City Marathon. I really like the faux leather look of the ASICS logo on both.
I’ll pull these shoes of the rack for recovery runs and regular runs throughout my training cycle. They don’t feel fast, but they feel safe and dependable. As experienced runners can tell you, not every run should be fast. And, having just recovered from a stress fracture this past summer, I can tell you that safe and dependable is what keeps you running day after day, week after week, year after year…
Enjoy the miles!
