Brooks Launch 3 Shoe Review

Brooks Launch 3 Running Shoe Review

When you find a good shoe, you stick with it. So, I was a little nervous when I heard my beloved Brooks Launch 2 was being replaced. However, I’m happy to report the updated Brooks Launch 3 raises the bar even higher for performance trainers with a revamped upper, comfortable ride, and springier push-off.

Brooks Launch 3 Running Shoe Review

The Brooks Launch 3 has more room around the ball of the foot than its predecessor and feels like it sits a little higher in the heel (27mm). The overall effect feels something like running slightly downhill. The revamped upper feels a bit breezier as well, letting in plenty of air to increase ventilation.

One should never buy a running shoe based on looks alone. But, that being said, the Brooks Launch 3 is a fine looking running shoe. The 3-D printed overlays and the inked Brooks logo look good and give it a kind of Spiderman feel. I particularly like the fiery red version that screams speed.

Road Test of the Brooks Launch 3

I took these shoes right out of the box and went for a 16-mile run. No blisters, no discomfort, and happy feet. The Brooks Launch 3 felt light, fast and comfortable enough to run for two hours non-stop. I noticed improved ventilation as the freezing winter air had no trouble penetrating the porous lightweight upper. I definitely recommend merino wool running socks for those of you that live in snowy places. The outsole is made from a thick rubber that lasts well and provides good traction in all weather conditions.

The spacious mid-sole felt kind of weird the first few miles, but I forgot all about it as soon as I kicked the pace up and began my first marathon pace segment. The toe box seems a little narrower than the previous model, and the sizing continues to run about a 1/2 size small. I have one toe that rubs on the front these shoes just like it does on my Brooks Launch 2’s. This doesn’t happen in my Ghost 8‘s or my GTS shoes.

Brooks Launch 3 Running Shoe Review

I’m really happy with these performance training shoes. They’re fast enough for speed days and comfortable enough to wear on long runs. The traditional geometry of this shoe compliments my high arches and my running style. The Brooks Launch 3 is a great training and racing shoe for road runners at every distance.

  • responsive, fast feel
  • cushioned enough to offer protection on long runs
  • good ventilation

  • run 1/2 size small

These shoes were sent to me for review.

  1. I use the Nike zoom pegasus 32s and they fit me perfectly. How would you compare the fit of the 32s vs these? I’ve heard the launch 3s run a bit small.
